We love getting the music community together to celebrate performances, or discuss important issues, or even just to share some of our experience and the unique special opportunities that come along with our brands and the artists that use them. Digital pianos represent one of the fastest growing segments in the music world but it’s critically important to understand some of the core values that separate good instruments from ones with lots of features but not enough proper function. There are ways to understand if a digital piano can be a suitable choice for a piano and how to tell which ones are and which are not. We also explore some of the enriched music-making and learning opportunities that exist in the digital world. Learn how digital piano technology has evolved over the last 30 years and how some of the modern instruments are setting a very high standard of piano performance.

Everyone likes to get a good deal, so this very popular workshop focuses on the practical and critically important things to consider before investing in a used or clearance sale instrument. Learn how to quickly evaluate a piano for quality, performance, expecting lifespan and value. We talk about the critical importance of getting independent expert evaluation of any clearance or used piano’s condition prior to purchase. We identify who can do that for you. We also discuss the importance of confirming warranty coverage with the manufacturer and show how to get pricing guidance to know whether you are actually getting a special price. We point to a few of the “tricks of the trade” that are sometimes used to put used or clearance customers at a disadvantage.

A few years ago a Hollywood film-maker named Ben Niles approached Steinway and Sons with the desire to do a film about these wonderful pianos that are found on concert stages, major institutions and used by countless world-class artists. He received permission and gained special access to Steinway’s factories to craft a story-threaded look at how these instruments go from timber to concert stage. Instead of only a technical expose of manufacturing processes, this charming story interviews some of the artists, personalities and people who use, make and are responsible for this world-class brand. We love bringing a group of people in to watch the film and then see the instruments in person.
